What We Do
ViaCAP

The Viable Carbon Action Plan (ViaCAP) is a local carbon trading program that funds sustainability projects and helps communities reduce their carbon footprints.

Partnerships
ViaCAP harnesses the power of community partnerships involving local government, chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, colleges and universities, and others to implement sustainability and energy efficiency projects.

Implementation
The program’s funding is driven by Carbon Change™ and the sale of Transparent Emission Reduction (TERs). Carbon Change includes voluntary monetary contributions from tourists, community members, and anyone else who decides to ‘green’ a purchase or experience. This could take the shape of a ‘green’ ticket surcharge for a concert or a Carbon Change tip jar at the local coffee shop.
TERs are created when ViaCAP verifies and documents greenhouse gas emission reductions resulting from ViaCAP sustainability projects. Using internationally accepted methodologies and trained university students, ViaCAP converts the reductions into carbon credit-like commodities. TERs are then sold to local companies and events that want to offset a product launch, ‘green’ a conference, or neutralize employee travel. Revenue from TER sales fund additional energy projects.

Reduced Emissions
ViaCAP projects extend across businesses, community groups, and neighbors. Projects depend on the community’s needs, like CFLs, low-flow shower heads, Energy Star appliances, solar panels, and urban tree planting. As projects are implemented and documented by ViaCAP personnel, emissions are reduced.

Better Communities
A ViaCAP community is a better community. Not only does the program reduce harmful emissions, but it also fosters a more efficient business sector, educates students, and makes the area a more attractive tourist destination.
