Carbon Credits

PiSAT Solar Carbon Project

Project Name: PiSAT Solar Powered Lantern Replacement Project
Standard: The Clean Development Mechanism
Technology: Solar powered lanterns
Location: Country of Rwanda, Africa
Emissions Reduction: Highly dependent on lantern distribution schedule
Project Status: In development

Description:  This project will work to displace kerosene lanterns, that, research shows, are the dominant light source for the majority of Rwandans.  Kerosene lanterns are extremely cheap and inefficient paper lamps, and they contribute to poor home air conditions and carbon dioxide emissions. The durable and reliant PiSAT K-Light solar lantern will replace kerosene lanterns throughout the country through a coordinated distribution process.  Revenue generated from the sale of the resulting carbon credits will increase the solar lantern distribution and improve the participating citizens’ return on investment.
